Clockwise Everesting

Six Search Team Conquers ‘Clockwise Everesting’ Challenge for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice

In this display of determination and community spirit, the Six Search team, along with a few volunteers, completed the ambitious charity challenge we called ‘Clockwise Everesting’. On Thursday, 24th October, we took to the staircase of Liverpool’s Clockwise Offices and climbed our very own Mount Everest right in our backyard—all in support of Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.

The timing couldn’t be more crucial—the facility, one of only three baby hospices in the UK, is facing an urgent challenge. With their lease expiring next June, they need to raise £5 million for a new building to continue their vital work supporting children with life-limiting conditions. For the families who rely on their services each year, Zoe’s Place isn’t just a hospice—it’s a lifeline, offering irreplaceable care and support that many families simply couldn’t find elsewhere in Liverpool.

The Challenge

The idea was simple but daunting: climb, using our office staircase only, the height of Mount Everest. With 9 flights of stairs in the building, equating to 97 stairs from the ground to the fourth floor, to climb the height of Everest we would have to go up and down an astonishing 58,070 stairs—or about 600 complete circuits from the ground floor to the top. Conquering, a not so easy, 5,400 flights.

Our inspiration came from Nims Purja, the legendary Nepalese-British mountaineer who made the impossible feat of climbing the world’s 14 highest peaks within just over six months. We wanted to take on a challenge that matched our limits for a cause that mattered. Whilst our challenge may not have involved extreme altitude or supplemental oxygen, it required its own kind of endurance and teamwork.

The Journey

Our team began, some as early as 7:30 am, the relentless climb together, joined by some very enthusiastic volunteers. Hour after hour, we conquered those stairs, each step taking us closer to our aim. The support from everyone in the clockwise building, and the constant stream of encouragement from our online supporters, kept us going when our legs wanted us to stop.

What made this truly special was the real community involvement. We encouraged everyone to get involved, from the reception desk to the other businesses in the building, with each step counting towards our common goal. The 5,400 flights of stairs were a little less daunting with shared determination and camaraderie.

The Impact

We are delighted to announce we didn’t just reach our fundraising target; we smashed it! Thanks to the incredible generosity of 22 supporters, we raised £819, beating our £600 goal. Every penny will go to Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Liverpool, a remarkable charity that provides invaluable support for babies and young children from birth to age five with complex illnesses or disabilities and their families.

Looking Ahead

At Six Search, we like to push boundaries not only in terms of how we work professionally but also how we give back to the community. We chose this physical challenge because it really carries some core values about persistence, teamwork, and community engagement. More importantly, it helped raise awareness for a very worthy cause: Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, which provides vital care and support to families in need.

While still recovering with sore legs and the great feeling of accomplishment, we’re already thinking to our next challenge butfor now, we want to extend our biggest thanks to all participants, donors, and supporters. Special mention goes to the TechYard Recruitment team, who attacked those stairs with impressive enthusiasm!

This event proved once again that there is no need to go any further than the community itself because together we can do some quite remarkable things. Whether it’s climbing Everest or supporting small but vital charities in the community—it’s the people together who make all the difference.
