How Shopify Shows SEO is Key to Driving Traffic and Sales in 2025

Many Shopify owners invest time and money into generating traffic, but overlook the process of converting visitors into buyers. The exact situation our UK-based home improvement client was facing was that their Shopify store was underperforming, despite a steady flow of traffic. Technical issues, poor site experience, and lack of on-page SEO were all contributing to stagnant growth. That’s when they approached us at Six Digital.
What is conversion rate optimisation (CRO), and why is it important? Conversion rate measures the percentage of users who complete a desired action out of the total audience.
For Shopify retailers, this would be the percentage of people who complete a purchase through an online store. CRO is the process of increasing the conversion rate, which generally increases sales.
Shopify is one of the most conversion-ready ecommerce platforms available, but only if merchants make the most of its built-in advantages.
Looking at industry data, you can see this approach can be powerful for businesses.
Murad, a skincare brand, achieved a 56% conversion lift after migrating to Shopify.
The company Audio Advice saw 47% higher conversion rates and 21% revenue growth following their migration.
Shop Pay, which is Shopify’s accelerated checkout, drives up to a 50% lift in conversion rates versus guest checkout. Something as small as site speed can drive conversion, with a one-second faster page speed boosting conversions by 7% (source).
These industry benchmarks demonstrate why a conversion-focused SEO and UX strategy is crucial. A high ranking on Google doesn’t equal revenue; CRO helps turn your traffic into sales.
When sales become stagnant, most Shopify merchants’ first instinct is to increase traffic by running more ads and chasing more clicks, with the hope that more traffic equals more sales. Without improving conversion, extra traffic often means little to no return.
This was the same situation our Shopify client was facing. Before the redesign of their website, their Shopify store was not performing at its highest potential despite a steady stream of visitors.
The site’s ecommerce conversion rate stayed around 0.7-1.5%, with Shopify’s optimal benchmark of 2.5-3%.
It was clear the issue wasn’t traffic volume; it was how effectively the site turned visitors into buyers.
Pay-per-click (PPC) is a digital marketing strategy where advertisers pay a fee each time their ad is clicked. It works by targeting key terms, bringing in an audience with a higher intent to complete the desired action on your site, supporting CRO. Our Shopify PPC campaign for our client launched in March 2025, which marked the turning point for their site.
In February 2025, sales were at £36K, then jumped to £45K in March (+24% MoM). It rose again in April to £51K (+12% MoM). Alongside the sales increase, their conversion rate leapt from 1.19% in March to 2.23% in April, which is an increase of 86%.
This PPC campaign laid the foundation for high-quality traffic, bringing ready-to-buy customers to the website. By September, we had stabilised their growth and built the foundation for the next step, a full Shopify redesign.
The previous site had the foundation, but with many issues that affected the conversion rate. Some examples include latency issues, custom app bugs, issues with products not adding to the cart, and bugs when attempting to check out. These issues may seem small, but when thinking about consumer experience, these issues can make or break a sale.
Having worked with our client for a few months with strong communication throughout, it was evident to everyone involved that a site overhaul was necessary to improve the conversion rate and sales.
The site overhaul went live on 11th September 2025. These are the findings:
Pre-redesign period October 2024-February 2025 – 1.6%
Following the site overhaul, 14th September-14th October 2025 – 2.01%, a 25.7% uplift.
Daily conversions peaked with an all-time high at 3.37% on 26th September.
Pre-PPC average October 2024-Febuary 2025 – £45.4k with 271 orders per month.
Post-PPC average March – September 2025 – £58.4k sales with 302 orders per month, +29% in sales growth and +11% monthly orders growth.
Their record-breaking months, June and September 2025, both delivered over £76k in revenue, with October currently on track to break £90k in revenue.
Overall sales aren’t the only indicator of success; product lines also saw major growth.
The client’s core product line went from 195 units sold in February to 409 units sold in September, a 110% increase.
Combining an intuitively designed site to be more user-friendly and easier to navigate with a focused PPC strategy that targets ready-to-buy customers has led to a clear uplift in conversion rate.
Lessons learned and best practices
This project reinforced some key lessons about driving sustainable ecommerce growth:
Having high traffic isn’t the key to higher sales; your store should convert its traffic efficiently to drive conversions and attract ready-to-buy audiences.
Making your store easier to navigate for your consumers is vital; even a one-second improvement can significantly lift your conversion rates.
Shopify stores that load in under 3 seconds typically see 30–40% lower abandonment than those that take 5+ seconds to load.
There’s no quick fix to conversion improvement; continuous A/B testing, simplified checkout forms, and clear CTAs can raise conversions by up to 30% over time. Continuous Shopify conversion rate optimisation and testing are essential for sustaining growth.
Through our efforts in treating SEO, PPC, and UX as a unified growth engine, we helped our client transform their static Shopify store into a high-performing e-commerce brand.
